Patches

Creeper Patch, Image by Emmett Dalton

This is a patch I painted for my vest. Creeper is one of my favorite bands. I haven’t sewn it on yet. I haven’t decided on placement yet. I’ve also been painting and embroidering patches for other bands I like. Some of my favorite Creeper songs are Hiding with Boys, Paradise, Annabelle, America at Night, and Black Cloud.

Patch Vests Are Cool!

I’ve been working on a new patch vest. I have another patch jacket I made last year. Perhaps I’ll talk about it more in another post. This was just a grey denim jacket I found at a thrift store. I cut off the sleeves to make it a vest, added pyramid studs and chains and sewed on a back patch made from one of my favorite t shirts. I didn’t wear the shirt much anymore so I found a new way to enjoy wearing it. Otherwise, the vest is pretty blank. I’ve been working on making new patches for it but I haven’t added any yet. I can’t wait to finish it.

Violet Tea

Violets, Photo by Emmett Dalton

I found a small patch of violets outside my door the other day. It is a little unusual to me since they are more of a spring flower. I was excited to find these because violets are edible. They can just be washed and eaten raw however they make a fun tea that changes colors when dried. They can be dried in a dehydrator, the oven, or just left outside in the sun for awhile.

  • Tablespoon of dried violets
  • 6oz of hot water
  • Sugar to taste
  • Few drops of lemon juice
  • Cup
  • Loose leaf tea bag

Put the violets in a tea bag and steep in a cup with the hot water for about 5 minutes. When it’s done remove the violets. The tea should be blue in color. Add your sugar if you would like. Lastly add a few drops of lemon juice and watch how it changes the color to pink.

Artifact: Violet – This artifact definitely highlights my developing foraging skills. This matters because you have to be able to take breaks to do thinks that make you happy. Getting outside often makes me feel better when I’m stressed.
